About StayUp

Free, open-source Mac menu-bar Duck that keeps your Mac awake — local AI agents, model servers, renders, downloads. Lid closed, on battery. No telemetry.

How to install StayUp on a Mac

  1. Get OpenDMG. It is a free app store for open source Mac apps. Download OpenDMG.
  2. Search for StayUp and press Get. OpenDMG downloads version 1.4.2 from NongKnot's own GitHub release.
  3. Open it. The download is checked against its SHA-256 fingerprint and its signature is checked on your Mac before it lands in Applications.

Updates to StayUp show up in OpenDMG and install with one button. No account is needed.

Prefer to do it by hand? The developer's file is on GitHub: StayUp.dmg (1.7 MB).

What is new in StayUp 1.4.2

# StayUp 1.4.2

### Changed

- StayUp no longer sets your built-in screen's resolution — ever. 1.4.1
shipped an automatic correction that put your resolution back when macOS's
display memory overrode it at StayUp's own transitions; review found rare
timing windows where that correction could pick the wrong side and write a
wrong resolution into macOS's memory permanently. The auto-correction is
removed. Now StayUp only tells you: if macOS's memory changes your
resolution around StayUp turning on or off, you get one notification and
put it back yourself in System Settings — macOS relearns your choice and
goes quiet after that. Your picker is the only thing that ever sets your
 resolution.

### Fixed

- Turning "Keep screen on when lid closed" off now takes effect immediately.
Before, toggling it off and closing the lid within about a second could
leave the Mac fully awake all night with the setting showing off.
- A resolution you pick within seconds of StayUp turning on or off is no
longer mistaken for macOS's display memory (System Settings in front means
your pick wins), and repeated identical resolution notifications show only
 once per run.
- Transient display-read failures while the invisible stand-in screen is
being mirrored now retry instead of permanently disabling the stand-in
 until the next start.
