How to install MenuBarHider on a Mac

  1. Get OpenDMG. It is a free app store for open source Mac apps. Download OpenDMG.
  2. Search for MenuBarHider and press Get. OpenDMG downloads version 0.1.2 from happy666End's own GitHub release.
  3. Open it. The download is checked against its SHA-256 fingerprint and its signature is checked on your Mac before it lands in Applications.

Updates to MenuBarHider show up in OpenDMG and install with one button. No account is needed.

What is new in MenuBarHider 0.1.2

Apps that live only in the menu bar now show up when launched while the bar is collapsed, and a copy started outside Applications no longer hides its own `»`.

- macOS posts no launch notification for menu-bar-only apps (Raycast, Tunnelblick and most others), so one started while the bar was collapsed stayed hidden until the next expand. MenuBarHider now watches the list of running apps instead.
- MenuBarAgent ignores the allow-list for apps outside /Applications, MenuBarHider included, so a copy run from *Downloads* or a disk image lost its `»` and the bar could not be expanded. Such a copy now offers to move itself to Applications and relaunch, and hides nothing until it is moved.
- The release now comes as a disk image with an Applications link to drag the app onto. The zip is still here.
