How to install SpeakType on a Mac

  1. Get OpenDMG. It is a free app store for open source Mac apps. Download OpenDMG.
  2. Search for SpeakType and press Get. OpenDMG downloads version 2.0.0 from karansinghgit's own GitHub release.
  3. Open it. The download is checked against its SHA-256 fingerprint and its signature is checked on your Mac before it lands in Applications.

Updates to SpeakType show up in OpenDMG and install with one button. No account is needed.

Prefer to do it by hand? The developer's file is on GitHub: SpeakType_2.0.0_universal.dmg (18 MB).

What is new in SpeakType 2.0.0

SpeakType 2 is here, for macOS, Windows and Linux.

- One app on every system, with the same models running on your own computer.
- A new design, a menu bar panel, and a smaller, lighter app.
- Upgrading from SpeakType 1 on a Mac brings your history, dictionary and settings with you. Models need downloading again, since SpeakType 2 uses a different format.

The Windows installer isn't signed yet: on the SmartScreen prompt, click More info, then Run anyway.
