How to install Sonar on a Mac

  1. Get OpenDMG. It is a free app store for open source Mac apps. Download OpenDMG.
  2. Search for Sonar and press Get. OpenDMG downloads version 1.0.0-preview.1 from can4hou6joeng4's own GitHub release.
  3. Open it. The download is checked against its SHA-256 fingerprint and its signature is checked on your Mac before it lands in Applications.

Updates to Sonar show up in OpenDMG and install with one button. No account is needed.

What is new in Sonar 1.0.0-preview.1

Sonar's first experimental Mac preview provides a universal Apple Silicon / Intel build for macOS 14+. The app combines a menu bar library and notch player with synchronized lyrics and local playlist backup. The shared project also supports iOS 17+ source builds.

### Download and installation

- Download `SonarMac.zip` and `SonarMac.zip.sha256`.
- Verify with `shasum -a 256 -c SonarMac.zip.sha256`, then follow `INSTALL.md` inside the ZIP.
- The package is ad-hoc signed, without Developer ID signing or Apple notarization. macOS may block the first launch; installation and source-build options are documented.
- The interface is mainly Chinese. Search, playback, and quality depend on third-party services. No author credentials or audio files are included. iPhone builds require your own signing setup; this release does not distribute an IPA.

### Changes

- Removed three unused helper snippets with unresolved provenance and replaced size formatting and binary reading with Sonar implementations, retaining historical attribution records.
- Aligned the README's usage explanation with the existing GPL-3.0 license and added an English overview and experimental-build installation guidance.
