About Petal

Petal is a native macOS menu bar app for fast, local-first audio transcription.

How to install Petal on a Mac

  1. Get OpenDMG. It is a free app store for open source Mac apps. Download OpenDMG.
  2. Search for Petal and press Get. OpenDMG downloads version 2.6.0 from Aayush9029's own GitHub release.
  3. Open it. The download is checked against its SHA-256 fingerprint and its signature is checked on your Mac before it lands in Applications.

Updates to Petal show up in OpenDMG and install with one button. No account is needed.

Prefer to do it by hand? The developer's file is on GitHub: Petal-2.6.0.dmg (45 MB).

- Router: give each app or website its own cleanup instructions, or paste as said. Find it in Settings > Router.
- History shows the transcript and the cleaned-up text side by side, remembers the app you dictated into, and can transcribe a recording again with or without cleanup.
- Redesigned Intelligence settings with model tiles and a clearer Minimum Words control.
- Send now: while recording, press Control-X then Control-S to stop, paste, and press Return.
- Performance: the menu bar popup uses less CPU while hidden, and audio level updates redraw only the waveform.
