About OwlWhisper

Local voice input for macOS — hold a hotkey, speak, release, text appears at your cursor. Fully offline.

How to install OwlWhisper on a Mac

  1. Get OpenDMG. It is a free app store for open source Mac apps. Download OpenDMG.
  2. Search for OwlWhisper and press Get. OpenDMG downloads version 0.1.1 from sanvibyfish's own GitHub release.
  3. Open it. The download is checked against its SHA-256 fingerprint and its signature is checked on your Mac before it lands in Applications.

Updates to OwlWhisper show up in OpenDMG and install with one button. No account is needed.

Prefer to do it by hand? The developer's file is on GitHub: OwlWhisper-0.1.1.dmg (13 MB).

### Performance
- **Startup memory reduced from ~2.4GB to ~50MB** — models are no longer loaded at startup
- Models load on-demand when you first press the hotkey (during recording, so no perceived delay)
- Models auto-unload after 60 seconds of idle to free memory
- Punctuation model deferred to first actual transcription

### UI
- Right-align status labels (Authorized/Ready)
- Add globe icon to language row
