About TypeCue

Menu bar app that types your script into any app - one block per hotkey press, as real keystrokes at a human pace. For demos, screencasts, and presentations.

How to install TypeCue on a Mac

  1. Get OpenDMG. It is a free app store for open source Mac apps. Download OpenDMG.
  2. Search for TypeCue and press Get. OpenDMG downloads version 0.1.1 from alexpolonsky's own GitHub release.
  3. Open it. The download is checked against its SHA-256 fingerprint and its signature is checked on your Mac before it lands in Applications.

Updates to TypeCue show up in OpenDMG and install with one button. No account is needed.

Prefer to do it by hand? The developer's file is on GitHub: TypeCue.dmg (1.0 MB).

What is new in TypeCue 0.1.1

Fixes mid-typing stalls under load.

Two causes, both in the per-keystroke path while TypeCue works in the background behind the target app:

- Spaces, tabs, and line breaks resolved their keycode through a synchronous main-thread call on every keystroke - a visible stall whenever the main thread was momentarily busy (screen recording being the worst case). The keycodes are now cached with the layout cache, so the typing path never waits on the main thread.
- Typing runs now hold a latency-critical activity assertion, preventing App Nap and timer coalescing from stretching the pauses between characters.

**Install**: download `TypeCue.dmg` below, or `brew upgrade --cask typecue`. Signed and notarized; macOS 14+.
