How to install MacTap on a Mac

  1. Get OpenDMG. It is a free app store for open source Mac apps. Download OpenDMG.
  2. Search for MacTap and press Get. OpenDMG downloads version 2.1.2 from jaskirat1616's own GitHub release.
  3. Open it. The download is checked against its SHA-256 fingerprint and its signature is checked on your Mac before it lands in Applications.

Updates to MacTap show up in OpenDMG and install with one button. No account is needed.

Prefer to do it by hand? The developer's file is on GitHub: MacTap-2.1.2.dmg (4.4 MB).

What is new in MacTap 2.1.2

Knock the MacBook. The app does the rest.

**MacTap-2.1.2.dmg** is the signed, notarized build — open it and drag MacTap into Applications. **MacTap-2.1.2.zip** is the app only.

Requires a MacBook whose motion sensor is exposed as an SPU HID device (**M2 and later**, or **M1 Pro / Max / Ultra**) and macOS 14.6+. Original M1 Air is unsupported.

## What’s new in 2.1.2
- Same 2.1.1 app behavior (IMU-only detection, typing lockout, funny noises)
- Fresh Developer ID + notarization staple on the app; Gatekeeper (`spctl` / `gktool`) accepts `MacTap.app`
- Release ship now verifies the app and the disk image after stapling

After install, enable **Accessibility** so knocks can send shortcuts. Detection itself does not need it.
