About Crisp

Every display control macOS hides, in one menu bar app: sharp HiDPI/Retina scaling (no more blurry or tiny text), DDC brightness and volume, Extra Brightness past 100%, presets, virtual displays. Free and open source, a no-cost alternative to BetterDisplay and Lunar.

How to install Crisp on a Mac

  1. Get OpenDMG. It is a free app store for open source Mac apps. Download OpenDMG.
  2. Search for Crisp and press Get. OpenDMG downloads version 1.7.0 from didriksg's own GitHub release.
  3. Open it. The download is checked against its SHA-256 fingerprint and its signature is checked on your Mac before it lands in Applications.

Updates to Crisp show up in OpenDMG and install with one button. No account is needed.

Prefer to do it by hand? The developer's file is on GitHub: Crisp.dmg (4.8 MB).

What is new in Crisp 1.7.0

Crisp 1.7.0 can switch a monitor's input, keep the built-in off while you're docked, and run presets, brightness, HDR and Image Adjustment from Shortcuts. Presets can now carry HDR and Image Adjustment, the arrangement and resolution you pick survive a reboot, and on macOS 27 Crisp follows the new system look. It also fixes the panel after Show Desktop and after a display sleep, a black screen on a MacBook Air undocked while asleep, and a colour profile lost on an Image Adjustment reset.

## New

- **Input switching.** Each external display with DDC gets an Input row, listing the inputs the monitor reports or the standard list when it reports none. Choosing another input switches the monitor and disconnects it in Crisp, because macOS keeps a monitor that shows another computer online and your pointer and new windows would go onto it. Reconnect brings it back and switches it to this Mac. Crisp reads which input the Mac is on before it switches, and if the monitor can't say, you pick it once. On a Mac with one display the input switches and the display stays connected. The same is in crispctl (`display input list` and `display input set`) and in Shortcuts (Set Display Input), where a number also works for monitors with their own codes. (#196)
