How to install Better Switch on a Mac

  1. Get OpenDMG. It is a free app store for open source Mac apps. Download OpenDMG.
  2. Search for Better Switch and press Get. OpenDMG downloads version 0.3.0 from owenzhao's own GitHub release.
  3. Open it. The download is checked against its SHA-256 fingerprint and its signature is checked on your Mac before it lands in Applications.

Updates to Better Switch show up in OpenDMG and install with one button. No account is needed.

What is new in Better Switch 0.3.0

Better Switch 0.3.0 adds Shake to Focus.

- Hold a window's title bar and shake it left and right to minimize other windows on the current desktop.
- Automatically hides other apps when their windows cannot be minimized. The shaken window's own app is never hidden.
- Shake again to restore the windows and apps changed by the previous shake, and bring the shaken window forward.
- Keep holding the title bar between actions: a 1.2-second cooldown prevents accidental immediate toggling.
- Use **Restore Shaken Windows** in the menu bar to restore the changed windows at any time.

Hiding affects an entire app, including its windows on other desktops. Other windows belonging to the shaken window's app remain visible if they cannot be minimized.

Requires macOS 15 or later and Accessibility permission. The ZIP contains a universal Apple silicon/Intel app signed with Developer ID and notarized by Apple. Existing installations can update through **Check for Updates…**.
