How to install Ayna on a Mac

  1. Get OpenDMG. It is a free app store for open source Mac apps. Download OpenDMG.
  2. Search for Ayna and press Get. OpenDMG downloads version 0.4.0 from sozercan's own GitHub release.
  3. Open it. The download is checked against its SHA-256 fingerprint and its signature is checked on your Mac before it lands in Applications.

Updates to Ayna show up in OpenDMG and install with one button. No account is needed.

Prefer to do it by hand? The developer's file is on GitHub: ayna-v0.4.0.dmg (12 MB).

What is new in Ayna 0.4.0

Ayna v0.4.0 makes chats, tools, persistence, and Apple Watch sync faster and more dependable. It also adds web search without an API key and improves support for local AI services.

## Highlights

- **Web search without setup** — Built-in search now uses DuckDuckGo when Tavily is not configured, and automatically falls back to DuckDuckGo if Tavily fails ([#85](https://github.com/sozercan/ayna/pull/85)).
- **Better local-model support** — OpenAI-compatible and Anthropic services can use loopback HTTP endpoints such as `localhost`, `127.0.0.1`, and `::1`. Custom OpenAI-compatible services outside OpenAI and Azure can run without an API key ([#89](https://github.com/sozercan/ayna/pull/89)).
- **Faster conversations and tools** — Large transcripts, code highlighting, conversation loading, streaming updates, request construction, and MCP discovery now perform substantially less work ([#86](https://github.com/sozercan/ayna/pull/86), [#92](https://github.com/sozercan/ayna/pull/92)).
- **More reliable requests and storage** — Stronger ownership and cancellation handling prevents stale AI, tool, and image callbacks from overwriting newer work. Conversation clears and encrypted persistence are now coordinated transactionally ([#93](https://github.com/sozercan/ayna/pull/93)).
